Making Modifications to Speaker Adapters

MJM Auto Innovations strives to produce speaker adapters that make speaker installation as easy as possible. Due to there being so many variables in installation scenarios, it is difficult to produce speaker adapters that will work right out of the box, in every instance. Occasionally, it may be necessary to modify the adapters to meet individual installation needs. The following tips are intended to be an easy fix to common problems.

Tips for Installing Speaker Adapters

Although we design our speaker adapters to be installed as flawlessly as possible, occasionally issues will arise. Most are minor, and can be corrected by making slight modifications to the speaker adapters.

Reshaping Adapters - Our speaker adapters are specifically made from a material that is very forgiving to modify. A Dremel or similar rotary tool works excellent for taking off material. You can also use a sharp utility knife. If using a knife, shave off small amounts of material at a time, to prevent cracking. If you do crack an adapter, we will exchange it for a new one at no charge.

Making Holes in Adapters - If you do not have a drill available, you can bore holes in the adapters using a Phillips head screwdriver. Just use firm pressure, and turn. Smaller holes can be bored with a drywall screw, or heating up a small nail, and burning a hole through.

Screws included with adapters - The 8-32 x 5/16" screws are intended for attaching the aftermarket speakers to the adapters. When installing these screws, use firm pressure to start the screws, and do not over tighten. It is recommended to use super glue as a thread locker on these screws. If you strip the holes, then you should definitely use super glue.

Depth Problems - There are speaker spacers available at www.mjmautoinnovations.com When using spacers, it is recommend to use PVC pipe cement (available at any hardware store or home center) to fuse the adapters and the spacers. This will provide a rock solid bond, and safeguard against rattles.

Preventing Rattles - It is recommended to install a bead of silicone between the speaker adapters, and the vehicle. If you still experience rattles, you can use Dynamat, or a similar sound absorbing material, on and around the adapters.
